First Reactions to ATMOS: CITRA’s Listening Session

Last week had a special day in the studio as I welcomed the high-energy rock band, CITRA, for an exclusive ATMOS listening session. The band stopped by on their way to a show at the Black Sheep in Colorado Springs, eager to experience their new songs in ATMOS for the first time. As the mixer for these tracks, I was just as excited to see their reactions.

The session began with a bit of anticipation in the room. CITRA, known for their powerful live performances, had never encountered the immersive world of ATMOS. The moment the first track began to play, you could see the awe on their faces. As the sounds enveloped them, each band member seemed transported, fully immersed in the spatial audio experience, rotating seat positions to be right in the sweet spot.

“It’s Fucking with me,” said bassist, MJ, as he rolled the chair around, letting the sounds swirl around him.

Drummer Dan simple said “I would never leave this room.”

Their reactions were everything I had hoped for as a mixer. The hard work and countless hours spent perfecting the stereo mix and ATMOS mix had paid off, giving CITRA a new way to experience their own music.

As the listening session continued, we played another new track, Papercuts. The experience wasn’t just about hearing the music; it was about feeling it, living it and being really part of the music.

Watching CITRA experience their music in ATMOS for the first time was a powerful reminder of why I love what I do. It’s about creating moments like these, where the music comes alive in new and unexpected ways. Here’s to many more sessions like this and to the future of music in ATMOS!
