Music’s Too Fun Not to Have Fun Making It
I recently had the pleasure of joining Lij Shaw on the Recording Studio Rockstars podcast to share my journey, insights, and approach to making music. From my Dolby-approved Atmos studio, Monument Sound, perched 7,400 feet up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, I deliver immersive mixes that stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the industry.
In the episode, I talk about how it all began with TBR Studio—The Basement Recording Studio—in Virginia, and how my path wound through years of military service, technical growth, and nonstop creativity before landing in Monument, Colorado. By 2007, I was balancing a day job while mixing by night, a dedication that ultimately evolved into Monument Sound—a private studio where creativity and technical precision converge.
In 2022, I elevated my space with a Dolby-approved ATMOS mixing room, giving artists access to cutting-edge, three-dimensional mixes designed for today’s evolving music landscape. While I’ve collaborated with artists worldwide across multiple genres, my heart remains rooted in rock, pop, and country. Beyond the music, I also bring my talents to indie film post-production, expanding the scope of Monument Sound.
During my conversation with Lij, I shared:
- Behind-the-scenes of my current studio setup and favorite gear, like the SSL Sigma.
- How tech tools like Forte AI and Soundflow are transforming my workflow.
- Advice for music professionals on avoiding debt, staying creative, and balancing music as both an art and a business.
The episode is packed with inspiration and practical insights, all underscored by my belief that “music’s too fun not to have fun making it.”
